In light of all the GOP-based attacks on our state’s public workers, it is interesting to note that, based on Census Numbers (see chart below), Minnesota currently ranks #39 in state employees per capita. As Gov. Mark Dayton has previously noted, Minnesota already runs one of the leanest state governments in the country!

25 MarGov. Walker and the GOP jammed through a union-busting bill that strips nearly all collective bargaining rights from public workers. We will not stand for this political power grab that was orchestrated through the violation of open meetings law.
We have the opportunity now to get things on the right track once again. With the Wisconsin Supreme Court elections on April 5 and recall efforts targeting GOP senators across the state, we have the chance to elect representatives that will not ignore the working, middle-class families of Wisconsin. Take a stand for Wisconsin. Spread the word!

Saturday – Madison
The AFL-CIO is encouraging union members and supporters to head to Madison on Saturday, March 12 for a 3 PM rally at the Capitol. Contact your local union to find out if carpooling and other transportation opportunities are available. (MNA is sending vans down on March 12 and 13 – you can sign up online now!)Sunday – Hudson
On Sunday, union members have the opportunity to protest Governor Walker’s budget repair bill at a visibility event in Hudson, WI from 1-3 PM. Please bring your own sign to the Carmichael Bridge overpass (from I 94 exit 2- Carmichael Road, parking available in park-n-ride lot on north frontage road). 7 MarP.O.W.E.R. - People Organizing Wisconsin for Education and workers’ Rights
People Organizing Wisconsin for Education and workers’ Rights (P.O.W.E.R.) are Wisconsinites who support public education and collective bargaining rights for all workers. Inspired by the ideals of “Fighting Bob” La Follette, we are walking from Milwaukee to Madison to support the “Wisconsin Idea”. The century old “Wisconsin Idea” promotes equality by:
- Building our collective economy
- Advancing healthcare and medicine
- Educating young and old and
- Enhancing quality of life for all
The walk will begin on Friday, March 11 at 6AM at Riverside University High School (1615 E Locust St) in Milwaukee. The walk will be divided into three shifts:
- Friday-Milwaukee to Concord (est. 13 hours),
- Saturday leaving at 8AM-Concord to Deerfield (est. 9 hours) and
- Sunday leaving at 8AM-Deerfield to the Capitol building (est. 6 hours).

4 MarNNU and MNA RNs led a New Orleans-style jazz funeral process and subsequent rally of more than 10,000 people outside the Madison Capitol, and RNs also managed to get inside the building to advocate as well!
